"Praise Him in Song"

"Above All"

Above all powers, above all kings,

Above all nature and all created things,

Above all wisdom and all the ways of man,

You were here before the world began.

The above is the first verse to the song, "Above All," co-written by Lenny LeBlance and Paul Baloche.  It was released in 1999.

Both Lenny and Paul are worship leaders.  Lenny invited Paul to his home to work on a musical project.  While sharing ideas for songs, Paul shared a song that he had been working on for a while.  He was having difficulty writing the chorus.

Lenny liked the song, and set out to write a chorus for it.  Early in the morning which Paul was still sleeping, he slipped out to his studio.  There, he said, God gave him the lyrics and melody for the chorus:

Crucified, laid behind the stone,

You lived to die rejected and alone,

Like a rose trampled on the ground,

You took the fall and thought of me,

Above all.

After lunch, Lenny shared the chorus he had written, and Paul liked it.  It was completely different from what Paul had thought it would be.  The verses talked about Christ's majesty, might, and power.  But the chorus went immediately to His crucifixion, which shows how the victory was won.

Verse 2 completes this beautiful worship song:

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones,

Above all wonders the world as ever known,

Above all wealth and treasures of the earth,

There's no way to measure

What You're worth.
