"Shout to the Lord"
When I think of shouting to the Lord, I think of when the children of Israel surrounded the city of Jericho. Joshua told them not to shout or make any noise with their voice until he told them to. After circling the walled city seven times, the priests blew the trumpets and the people shouted with "a great shout!" The wall fell down.
Psalm 47:1 says "shout unto the Lord with the voice of triumph." When Joshua told children of Israel to shout, he also said, "The Lord has given you the city."
Darlene Zschech, the writer of this song, said it flowed from her heart and Psalm 96. Psalm 96:1, 2, 11, and 12 say:
O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; show his salvation from day to day. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all it's fullness. Let the field be joyful, and and all that is in it.
I remember a Salvation Army commander say this was his favorite song. I like it, too. I especially like the words:
"Nothing compares to the promise I have in You."
