"It is No Secret"/"How Big is God"
In 1958, "It is No Secret" was released by its writer and composer, Stuart Hamblen. Stuart began his singing career as a singing cowboy. For more than two decades, his radio program kept him on top of the West Coast popularity.
When Billy Graham was in Los Angeles to have a crusade, Hamblen invited him to be on his radio show. His father had been a traveling Methodist preacher, and his wife was a devout Christian. But Stuart lived on the fast lane.
Billy Graham accepted his invitation, and Stuart enjoyed his time with him. When Billy Graham invited him to the crusade the next night, he went. As a result, Stuart received Christ.
Newspapers spread the word quickly. One day, as Stuart was walking on a Hollywood street, actor John Wayne stopped and asked, "Is it true what happened to you?" Hamben said, "I guess it is no secret." John Wayne laughed and said, "That sounds like a song to me." As they parted, Hamblen told his friend, "You know, John, what God did for me, He can do for you."
That night, Stuart wrote this song:
The chimes of time ring out the news, another day is through;
Someone slipped and fell, was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength your courage to renew;
Do not be dishearted for I bring hope to you.
Chorus:
It is no secret what God can do;
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He's pardon you;
It is no secret what God can do.
There is no night, for in His light, you'll never walk alone,
Always feel at home wherever you may roam;
There is no power can conquer you when God is on your side.
Just take Him at His promise, don't run away and hide.
Stuart Hamblen also wrote another song, "How Big is God."
Though man may strive to go beyond the reach of space
To crawl beyond the shim'ring stars
This world's a room so small within my Master's house
The open sky's but a portion of His yard.
Chorus:
How big is God? How big and wide His vast domain
To try and tell, lips can only start
He's big enough to rule His mighty universe
Yet small enough to live within my heart.
As winter's chill may cause the tiny seed to fall
To lie asleep till waked by summer's rain
The heart grown cold will warm and throb with life anew
The Master's touch will bring the glow again.
