"Holy, Holy, Holy, (Hosanna)"
God reveals Himself as Father, an intimate relationship. He also reveals Himself as God--making known His greatness.
The words of this praise song are from Isaiah 6:3, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Hosts: The whole earth is full of His glory." In the 1960's, Peter Scholtes wrote a song while he was a parish priest and choir leader in South Chicago. (He also wrote the song, "They'll Know We are Christians by Our Love," which was used in the Jesus Movement of the 60's.}
"Holy, Holy, Holy (Hosanna)" opens with the words:
Holy, holy, holy , Lord God of power and might
Heaven and earth are filled with Your Glory
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power of might
Heaven and earth are filled with your glory
As a priest, Peter was familiar with "The Sanctus," which used these words. "The Sanctus" is a part of Christian liturgy, and is sung before Eucharist or communion. Peter composed another melody for these words:
Hosanna, Hosanna,
In the Highest
Hosanna, Hosanna
In the Highest
The word, "hosanna," in the Hebrew means, "Save, we pray." When Jesus entered Jerusalem the week He was crucified, the people waved palm branches, declaring these words.
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord
Hosanna in the Highest
The song can be both our prayer and praise to the God who is in the Highest.
