"Beautiful Savior"
Imagine walking in the countryside of Silesia, which was part of the German east border. Two men did just that in around 1836. Dr. Hoffman and Ernest Richter were looking for folk songs to preserve. One would write down the tune and the other the text. There they found "Beautiful Savior," also known as "Fairest Lord Jesus."
A text for the hymn was found earlier in 1677, with no writer known. Over time, there has been altered forms, but the message has stayed the same--love for the Savior.
Beautiful Savior, King of Creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I'd love, Thee. Truly I'd serve Thee,
Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.
Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in flow'rs of blooming spring:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer,
Than all the angels in the sky.
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine!
