"Praise Him in Song"

"The Lord's Prayer"

The song, "The Lord's Prayer" has found a wide audience.  It's words are the words that Jesus used when He taught how to pray in Matthew 6:9-13:

Our Father, which are in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Jesus ended the prayer with a declaration of praise:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and glory.

Forever.  Amen.

The composer, Albert Hay Malotte, (1895-1964) is best known for this song, although he wrote others, both sacred and secular.  His career began in Chicago where he played for silent pictures, and later he went on tour with USO during World War II.  He won two Short Subject Academy awards for the scores he wrote for Disney's "Ferdinand the Bull" in 1939 and "The Ugly Duckling" in 1940.

In 1935, he wrote "The Lord's Prayer."  He also composed musical settings for the "Beautitudes" and the "Twenty-Third Psalm" which remain popular as solos.
