"Praise Him in Song"

"I Speak Jesus"

It is a puzzle why Jesus' name is used in cursing.  Reasons can be the culture we live in, not realizing the meaning of what is being said, or outright opposition to the name of Jesus.  The Bible says Jesus came to redeem us from the curse.  Jesus taught us to pray in the "The Lord's Prayer,"  "Hallowed be Thy Name."

Your Name is power

Your Name is healing

Your Name is life

Break every stronghold

Shine through the shadows

Burn like a fire.

The above words are the chorus to the song, "I Speak Jesus."  It was written "Here Be Lions" worship team, led by Dustin Smith.  The collective group members, (Dustin, Jesse Reeves, Carlene Prince, Raina Pratt, Kristen Dutton, and Abby Benton), gathered together to write one day.  Before starting, Jesse prayed a prayer, "I just want to speak the name of Jesus over these people."  When they began to write, Dustin asked if they could write a song based on Jesse's prayer.  Dustin said the song came easily.  The opening verse says:

I just want to speak the name of Jesus

Over every heart and every mind

'Cause I know there is peace within Your Presence

I speak Jesus

Names are important--we identify each other through them.  God the Father gave Jesus a name that is above every name because He endured the cross for us.  Verse 2 says:

I just want to speak the name of Jesus

'Till every dark addiction starts to break

Declaring there is hope and there is freedom

I speak Jesus.

The bridge to the song raises the volume to shouting.

Shout Jesus from the mountains, Jesus in the streets

Jesus in the darkness over every enemy

Jesus for my family

I speak the holy name, Jesus

Jesus' name is holy.  And His name has power.

The song was released in 2019.  Verse 3 says:

I just want to speak the name of Jesus

Over fear and all anxiety

To every soul held captive by depression

I speak Jesus.
