"Goodness of God"
Sometimes a song is written after a special event. Miriam and the child of Israel say, "I will sing unto the Lord for He has Triumphant Gloriously" after the miracle of the Red Sea parting.
Jen Johnson shares on You Tube that she wrote the song, "Goodness of God" after the adoption of their fourth child. Adoption is a big decision, and Ryder brought such love to their family. While on a long drive one day, the song came to her. She sang it to the Lord while recording it on her phone.
Many can identify with the chorus to the song and verse 1:
All my life You have been faithful,
All my life You have been so so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God.
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
Verse two addresses the times we have that are more difficult. Jesus said, "In the world you shall have tribulation. But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God
The bridge to the song says God's goodness is running after us. "Running after" is close to the Hebrew meaning of Psalm 23:6, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life." "The Complete Jewish Study Bible" uses the word "pursue". Goodness and grace will pursue you every day of your life. The words to the bridge are:
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
With my life laid down I'm surrendered now, I give You everything
Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
I will sing of the goodness of God
