"Great Are You Lord"
There is a oneness in singing praise and worship songs corporately. The song, "Great Are You Lord," uses the words "we" and "our." The worship is to God only.
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only.
"Great are You Lord" was written during a writing session between David Leonard and Leslie Jordan of "All Sons & Daughters" and Jason Ingram. It was released in 2013.
Jason shared that he had been thinking of a line, "It's Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise." Together, the three looked at scriptures around this concept, and the song was birthed. Genesis 2:7 says, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."
Our very breath is poured back to God in praise. And not just our breath, but our hearts, also.
And all the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry
These bones will sing
Great are You Lord.
The song goes on to declare our thanksgiving to God. Psalm 62:8 says, "Trust in Him at all times, you people, pour out your hearts to Him for God is our refuge."
You give life
You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope
You restore
Every heart that is broken
And great are You Lord.
Great are You Lord.
