"Revelation Song"
In 1988, Jennie, the writer of Revelation Song," gave her life to Jesus. There was a new song out at the time, "I Hear Angels" by Garrit Gustafson. The lyrics said:
"I hear angels singing praises. I see men from every nation, bowing down before the throne...like the sound of many waters...like the rushing wind around us...multitudes. Join the song...and a symphony of praise arises...tears are wiped away from the eyes as men, from every tongue and tribe, all sing...Holy, holy...God Almighty...who was, and is, and is to come..."
Jennie said that song stayed in her heart, and she would sing it as a lullaby for each of her children. In 1999, she began singing the lullaby for her fourth son, Andrew. Her keyboard was broken down, and it had been a particularly tough "mommy" day. A spaghetti dinner was waiting to be cooked, but Jennie sensed the Holy Spirit. She began to pray about a long felt desire to see and hear all creation worshipping the Him, and asked the Lord to help her write a song that painted that scene.
Putting the baby down to play with his toys, she picked up the guitar, and began to play four chords. Immersed in the scriptures of Exekiel 1:26-28 and Revelation 4, the Lord helped her to paint what she was seeing through those passages.
Clothed in rainbows of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
To You, the only wise King
The melody stuck. The song wouldn't leave her, and she sang it for weeks. Jennie introduced 'Revelation Song" one Sunday to her local church. With joy, she watched the Father "grow it up" later with several different renditions springing up by various artists, colleges, and churches. Kari Jobe released the song with a new musical bridge that Jennie liked. The rest of the words are:
Worthy is the
Lamb who was slain
Holy, holy, is He
Sing a new song
to Him, who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat
Holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore you.
Filled with wonder
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your name is power
Breath, and living water
Such a marvelous mystery
Oh, You're worthy, mystery (Mystery)
You are (You are)
Are worthy, yes
