"Doxology"
"Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" was written by Thomas Kenin England in 1674. He wrote three hymns for his students at Winchester College--one for morning, one for night, and one for during the night if sleep didn't come. All three hymns ended with a common stanza:
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
He suggested the boys use the hymns privately in their rooms for devotions.
One of the three hymns was "Awake, my Soul, and with the Sun" and another, "All Praise to Thee, my God, this Night." They were forerunners of other morning and evening hymns. But "Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow" would take a place of its own.
