"Praise Him in Song"

"The Wonder of It All"

Jesus' disciples asked Jesus what would be the sign of His coming again?  One of the signs is found in Matthew 24:14, "And this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations..."

In the 1950's, George Beverly Shea was aboard a ship headed for Scotland.  In Scotland, George would join Billy Graham and his team for a crusade.  His part was to sing.

One of the passengers on board asked him what went on in a crusade?  George began to describe the crusade to him, but when he got to the part of people coming forward, he found himself at a loss for words.  He finally said, "What happens then never becomes commonplace....watching people by the hundreds come forward....Oh, if you could just see the wonder of it all."

The passenger replied, "I think I should."  Then the passenger wrote the words, "The Wonder of It All" on the back of a card and handed it to George.  That evening, George looked at the card again, and wrote the song, "The Wonder of It All."

There's the wonder of sunset at evening,

The wonder at sunrise I see,

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul

Is the wonder that God loves me.

There is much to wonder at when thinking of the vastness and order of God's creation.  Yet the wonder that thrilled George the most was the wonder that God loved him.

There's the wonder of springtime and harvest,

The sky, the stars, and the sun;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul

Is a wonder that has just begun.

"It's a wonder that has just begun."  God's kingdom is forever!

Chorus:

Oh the wonder of it all!  The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

Oh the wonder of it all!  The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

George Beverly Shea is said to have written one or two songs.  Doug Oldham and the Gaithers sing on this video.
