"Jesus Messiah"
In the new Testament, the title "Christ" is often added to Jesus' Name. The Greek word "Christ" means the same as the Hebrew word, "Messiah." Both words mean "The Anointed One," the One sent from heaven to do the work that the Father had sent Him to do. In Matthew 16:15,16, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
A contemporary song, "Jesus Messiah," by Chris Tomlin, focuses on Jesus as Messiah. In an interview shared on "Song Facts", a website, Christ Tomlin said that the initial melody and lyrics came from his guitar player, Daniel Carson. When he heard the song, it jumped out at Chris. He was looking to use the title "Messiah" in a song. Chris said, "Every lyric in this song amplifies the idea of Jesus being the Messiah."
The words to the song are:
He became sin, Who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled Himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing, love so amazing
Jesus Messiah, name above all names,
Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinner, the ranson from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
His body the bread, His blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn,
Love so amazing, love so amazing.
All our hope is in You all our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God, the light of the world
